What is Purple Tuesday?

Purple Tuesday is a global social movement dedicated to improving the customer experience for disabled people and their families. With 1.8 billion disabled individuals worldwide, representing 17% of the population, there’s an undeniable need for businesses to prioritize accessibility.

Launched with the goal of creating better experiences for disabled customers, Purple Tuesday calls upon businesses of all sizes and sectors to make public commitments to enhance their accessibility practices. Participating organizations pledge to introduce at least one new initiative each year to improve the way they cater to disabled customers, making their environments more inclusive and welcoming.

As part of our global initiative to get AAC everywhere, TTMT is excited to be giving away five public communication boards to parks around the country whose visitors require access to low-tech communication solutions. Our commitments for Purple Tuesday 2024

TTMT is committed to making communication more accessible so that individuals who are non-verbal or have unreliable speech have the tools they need to engage with the world around them. With the support of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), more people can engage with their communities and feel included in public spaces.

These tools provide individuals with a voice, allowing them to express their needs in situations where communication might be difficult. AAC can help non-verbal people to:

  • Quickly access to essential health and safety information in emergencies
  • Provide directions or instructions in public transit areas
  • Express their needs in shops, restaurants, and other services

Making these tools available not only benefits the individual using them but also fosters a more empathetic and inclusive environment for everyone in the community. We’re working on a range of initiatives to raise awareness of AAC and resources available to support communities to be more inclusive.

Join us for a webinar on accessible communication strategies

Join our free webinar with Smartbox on Tuesday November 19th, 2024, from 9 am - 10 am CST. This session will focus on strategies for supporting disabled customers in communicating their needs and building relationships in public and commercial settings.

In the webinar, you’ll learn:

  • Simple, effective strategies for promoting independence through communication
  • Real-world examples of businesses and public spaces that have integrated accessible communication solutions
  • The benefits of symbol-based communication tools and how they can be used in emergencies, for health and safety information, and in everyday interactions

By attending this webinar, you’ll gain valuable insights into how we can all contribute to making the world more accessible for individuals who use AAC. We hope to inspire other businesses and communities to take similar steps toward inclusion.

Purple Tuesday is more than just a day – it’s a year-round movement driving change in how businesses approach accessibility. By making accessibility improvements throughout the year, organizations can ensure that disabled individuals feel included and valued in every customer interaction.

We’re proud to be part of this ongoing effort to make public spaces more accessible through communication tools, and we invite you to join us in this mission. Together, we can ensure that no one is left without a voice.

We encourage you to register for our November 19th webinar and join the conversation on how we can continue to make strides in accessibility, one commitment at a time.
